Transition policy
We recognise that any type of transition can be stressful for both children and adults which can have far reaching impacts on children’s emotional well being and academic achievements.
We aim to work in partnership with parents and carers to support each individual child to ensure a smooth transition takes place when initially settling into our nursery.
Bright Star Childminding discusses with parents and carers to a structured approach for their child’s settling in period – which can involve the following;
Frequent visits to the setting prior to starting (this gives opportunities to see our setting running smoothly and to meet settled children and to participate in various activities during this time).
Introducing the staff and other children that will be in the setting when your child attends.
Familiarisation of the setting in general.
Allowing parent and child the time they need to separate effectively.
Encourage parents to stay close to the setting in case we need to contact you should your child be distressed.
Flexible settling in period; additional sessions, time flexibility.
Bright Star Childminding recognises their role in the transition from our setting into other settings i.e nursery school etc. We perform various functions during this phase such as:
Inviting nursery staff into our setting.
Arranging meetings between ourselves and other setting’s staff.
Providing children files/photo’s/work to share with other setting’s staff.
Discuss the transition process with the children to prepare them for any changes that may be about to occur.
Parents will be required to complete a form which details various patterns i.e. sleep patterns, soothers, interests and more. This information enables us to quickly understand each individual child’s needs and best ways to settle your child.
At Bright Star Childminding we encourage the flow of two way information, knowledge and expertise to maximise the learning and development that takes place within the home and within our setting so that we can identify the next steps for your child.
